Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments & Intrusive Site Investigation Services

Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) is an essential component of any environmental due diligence exercise, brownfield development scheme or pollution incident response. SLP provide the full spectrum of land quality assessment services from Phase 1 desk studies/document reviews through to Phase 2 intrusive site investigation design, project management and interpretative reporting. We use the latest detailed statistical techniques with reference to international best practice guidelines to ensure that our sampling design delivers the highest degree of confidence in the results.

Our focus is on meeting our clients’ needs and adding real value to every project. Consequently we only retain highly motivated personnel with extensive and distinguished track records in successfully delivering technically robust work to the customer's satisfaction. We have undertaken projects in: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

Typically the fieldwork will involve the formation of exploratory holes so that the geology and ground conditions can be established, samples recovered for geotechnical and environmental chemical analysis, and soil behaviour assessed.

In order to help us to understand the ground conditions, develop an effective risk assessment and make recommendations for an efficient and safe design we carry out a range of site investigation techniques:

·percussion boring and rotary drilling

·trial pitting and window sampling

·soil, water & gas sampling

·groundwater well installation

·groundwater and gas monitoring

·geotechnical laboratory testing

·environmental laboratory testing

·environmental contamination analysis and asbestos surveys

·topographical surveys

Samples recovered during the intrusive investigation will usually be subjected to a suite of geotechnical and/or environmental laboratory testing. The design of the testing schedule will depend upon the Conceptual Site Model, the ground conditions encountered or construction proposals.

Geotechnical test data is used to make recommendations regarding foundation and construction considerations. The geoenvironmental results are used to undertake qualitative and, where necessary, quantitative risk assessments in connection with human health, the wider environment and other identified vulnerable receptors. The findings of the environmental laboratory analysis enable the outline Conceptual Site Model derived from the desk study to be refined.

The refined Conceptual Site Model is used to determine the degree and extent of contamination and the likelihood and severity of the residual environmental risks. If any unacceptable risks are identified recommendations are given on remediation strategies which would be suitable to provide protection to the identified receptors.
