Restore your old jewellery
Gold and Silver Jewellery Pte Ltd
Jewellery, Jewelry, Jewellery : Retail
Established in 1946, Gold and Silver converted from being a retailer in Paragon to a bespoke jeweller with a showroom in Tong Building. Knowing that there will always be people who possess valuable jewels that they do not wear anymore (either because they are worn out or have gone out of fashion), this family operated business helps its customers spend wisely on new jewellery by ‘recycling’ what they already have. Today, the business strives not only in selling the finest in handcrafted jewels, but also in its design consultancy and restoration services.
After all, why accumulate what you can remake?
Customers can either bring in their gemstones for resetting, or dismantle their old jewellery pieces to redesign them. Even if smaller Diamonds are added in the creation, this process still proves to be the most cost effective way for people to obtain new jewellery – by remaking them from existing gemstones. It’s a win-win situation, as valuable jewellery that has been left unused in a drawer can be treasured once again.
At Gold and Silver, such customers (who seek to remake their jewellery in one way or another) have more than doubled in the last six months. Some women bring in old jewellery to have them redesigned into precious gifts in the form of dowry or wedding presents, which they can pass on to the next generation. In other cases, young ladies with jewellery that has been passed down from their mothers or grandmothers may transform pieces that are too old-fashioned for wearing into something contemporary today.
While some aim to totally revamp, others may wish to preserve designs from the past, as they feel guilty for tampering with a precious gift that is vintage. In general, all these customers see sentimental value in precious jewels that have been passed down the family tree, and they will do whatever it takes in order wear them with pride. These restoration projects often include the re-plating of yellow gold items into white gold, so as to match jewellery that they are already wearing.
"We have had customers empty out their jewellery boxes in front of us, saying What can you do with this? I never wear them, its such a waste keeping them in the drawer" says Liza Lim, Chief Designer and Director at Gold and Silver. She continues, "Seeing something that is precious but not in use, being made into beautiful new jewellery is a great feeling for the customer. Considering the times, it is also a great way for people to hold on to their money."
