This intensive hands-on course is specially designed by OG Fellow, Ron Yoshimoto for those who wish to use the Orton-Gillingham approach in the literacy component of their class room curriculum, at home or in private tutoring. This program is specially written to cater to all children, but specifically those with dyslexia or literacy difficulties.
Ron's engaging style, hands-on approach and ability to engage all learners has made him a favorite for the teachers he works with. He has had more than 25 years experience in training teachers/parents and working students with dyslexia.
For whom is the Orton-Gillingham approach appropriate?
The Orton-Gillingham approach is appropriate for teaching individuals, small groups, and classrooms; primary, elementary, intermediate, secondary, college, and adults. This course is designed specifically for reading specialists, special education teachers, kindergarten, primary, elementary & middle school classroom teachers, tutors, and parents.
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to: Identify those students at risk for learning difficulties in literacy; Structure both classroom and individualized approach to teach phonemic awareness, move from phonemic awareness to teaching phonics principles, teach scientifically based multisensory techniques in decoding, encoding, handwriting, composition, fluency, comprehension, and demonstrate a teaching lesson using the Orton-Gillingham approach.
Materials given include complete phonogram deck cards, morpheme cards, DVD on phonogram sounds and multiple CDs with more than 6,000 worksheets dealing with syllabication, sounds, rules and generalizations, lesson plans and more.
*Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Candidates may have to undergo an interview.
Adam State College in Colorado has authorized Ronald Yoshimoto to offer the OG course at the MSL Centre for graduate level credits. Individuals having a Bachelors degree will be able to receive three graduate level credits upon completion of the course.
